Upcoming US Open 2016: Players who captured the French Open & US Open in the same year!

The second Grand Slam event of the year, the 2016 French Open ended on 5th June, many tennis players emerged as Champions in different categories. However with the coming up 2016 US Open starting from 29th August lasting till 11th of September concluding with the men's singles Final, it'd be interesting to take a look at past Champions who have captured both the French Open and the US Open.

Garbine Muguruza, Women's Singles Champion at 2016 French Open

Since the US Open shifted from green clay to hard courts in 1978, only eleven players have proven to be victorious in both French Open and US Open. French Open is played on clay courts as well. Out of these eleven players, there're 4 men and 7 women. Most frequent champions in the women's category are Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Serena Williams etc.

In the men's category the champions to rule the double dipper are Ivan Lendi in 1986 and then again in 1987, the only man to do it twice, Mats Wilander in 1988, Andre Agrassi in 1999 and then finally in 2010, Rafael Nadal.

The double dipper does seem like an unfortunate event for men. hoping to see that change in the upcoming 2016 US Open.
